…doesn’t mean you can design fashion. Trust me. They have nothing in common.
Exhibit A Baby Phat. Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!!!!!!!! Gross. Kimora Lee Simmons has to be one of the least talented, most disgustingly self-obsessed creatures to ever pretend to design a clothing line. She copies everything she sends out on the runway as her own, and her “designs” are just downright hideous. The proof: http://fashionindie.com/ny-fashion-week-the-good-the-bad-but-mostly-the-ugly/
Urban Dictionary has a definition of Baby Phat, and I can’t say it any better myself:
“Ill-fitting, ugly, cheap looking yet overpriced clothing line aimed at urban women/girls who wear UP TO size 26.”
Short, sweet, to the point. (Disclaimer: This is NOT about plus sizes. I support them 110%. This is about Ugly.)
Kimora, just because you’re married to Russell Simmons does NOT mean you have any talent whatsoever. Please stop! Get a new hobby, for the love of all things aesthetically pleasing!
Exhibit B
Lindsay Lohan for Ungaro. Poor, poor Emanuel Ungaro. Even he hated the line bearing his own name! Now, that is sad. Imagine building a fashion house with your blood, sweat and tears, only to have it disfigured by this sad, troubled little party girl. “We were the creators and patrons, responsible for the creation and destiny of our houses. But when we gave up our houses, we gave up our souls.” I’m sorry, Emanuel. Hearts on butts, that was the main problem. No further explanation needed.
Exhibit C
Amy Winehouse. “No, She Didn’t!” No, really, she didn’t. We kind of expected it not to happen the whole time, if we are really honest with ourselves. First of all, when I heard she was going to launch a collection, I realized it couldn’t actually happen because she is rarely coherent. And, fortunately or unfortunately, you have to be lucid to design fashion. You might have to actually draw something requiring a straight line, or maybe even sew a seam. Yikes… she might have to focus! So, no surprise, the “launch” mentioned in 2008 has not materialized. But she seems to have teamed up with PPQ, a line that already exists and is already designed by someone else. Perfect! She won’t have to actually DO anything.
To anyone out there who is thinking about launching a fashion line, ask yourself… do I make any fashion decisions myself, or do I just wear whatever my stylist tells me? Honey, if that’s the case, your stylist should be in charge of the collection. You go do something else now, okay, Love?
