Alliant earnings jump 25%

Alliant Energy Corp. (LNT) today reported a 25% jump in second quarter earnings, and increased its earnings guidance for the full year.The Madison-based parent of gas and electric utility Wisconsin Power & Light said net income rose to $60.8 million, or 55 cents a share, from $48.6 million, or 43 cents, a year ago. Revenue increased 10.9% to $827.4 million from $746.2 million.Excluding income from discontinued operations in each year, earnings rose 15% to $51.8 million, or 47 cents a share.Alliant Energy said it is increasing its 2008 earnings guidance range for earnings from continuing operations to $2.60 to $2.80 a share, which includes changes to both utility and non-regulated earnings ranges.
